Frequently Asked Questions | Flash Photography – New York, NY
At Flash Photography, we specialize in creating timeless, magazine-worthy portraits that capture life’s most meaningful milestones. Whether you’re celebrating motherhood, a milestone birthday, or a proud graduation moment, we aim to make your session an unforgettable experience.
Below are answers to some of the most common questions about our maternity, Quinceañera, Sweet 16, prom, and graduation photography sessions in New York.
How far in advance should I book my session?
We recommend booking your portrait session at least 4–6 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. Maternity photography sessions in New York are especially popular between 28–34 weeks of pregnancy, while milestone events like Quinceañeras, Sweet 16s, and proms often book several months ahead of time. We do take last minute bookings, any session booked 14 days or less, the entire session balance is due in full as booking.
Where do sessions take place?
All standard sessions take place in our private, in-home studio located in Brooklyn, NY (11233). This studio offers a relaxed, refined environment ideal for maternity, portrait, and milestone photography.
For clients seeking a more customized look, we also offer:
Rental Studio Sessions – Available for an additional $699 fee.
On-Location Portraits – Perfect for outdoor or editorial-style shoots. Clients are responsible for securing any required permits or permissions for their chosen location.
Do you photograph events as well as portraits?
We primarily focus on portrait-style sessions — such as maternity, Quinceañera, Sweet 16, prom, and graduation portraits — We do provide event videography coverage and refer you to AllenJMedia.com
How long does a typical session last?
Session times vary depending on the type of portrait experience you choose.
Maternity and Portrait Sessions: 1–2 hours
Sweet 16 & Quinceañera Sessions: 1.5–3 hours
Prom & Graduation Portraits: 1–2 hours
We carefully plan each session to allow time for multiple looks, set changes, and creative direction.
Can I bring guests or family members to my shoot?
Yes, you may bring guests to your session! For studio shoots, the limit is three people total, including the person being photographed. We recommend bringing someone who uplifts and encourages you — your personal hype person.
Do you provide hair, makeup, or wardrobe styling?
We do not currently offer in-house hair and makeup services, but we highly recommend hiring a professional prior to your session. Light touch-ups are welcome during your shoot. If you need stylist recommendations, we’re happy to share a trusted list of artists in the New York area.
What should I wear for my session?
Wardrobe plays a big role in the overall look of your portraits.
For maternity photography , we recommend flowing gowns, fitted dresses, or minimal looks that highlight your silhouette. Review our Pinterest board here - Maternity Photo Shoots
For Quinceañera and Sweet 16 portraits, bring your formal gown, heels, and a second look for a modern or editorial twist. Review our Pinterest board here - Quince | Sweet 16 Portraits
For prom and graduation photography, a mix of classic attire and celebratory looks works beautifully. - Prom Portrait Sessions | Graduation Portraits
We’ve curated inspiration boards to help you plan your style — available upon booking.
What happens if I’m late or need to reschedule?
Please arrive on time — sessions begin and end as scheduled. Late arrivals will reduce your available shoot time. A 15-minute grace period is granted if you notify us ahead of time. If client is 30 minutes late or more, we have the right to cancel your session. No additional time will be granted to accommodate the time you missed. You are able to pay for additional time if the photographer has availability. Clients are permitted one complimentary reschedule, subject to date availability.
What is your payment and cancellation policy?
A 50% non-refundable retainer is due at booking to secure your session date. Final payments are due 14 days prior to your session. Cancellations made more than 14 days in advance are refundable, excluding the retainer. Bookings made within 14 days require payment in full and are 100% non-refundable.
Do you edit all of the photos?
The number of edits is determined by the package you select. All final images are professionally retouched with a natural, high-end finish. We remove minor blemishes, adjust tones, and perfect skin while preserving your natural beauty and authenticity.
How long does it take to receive my photos?
You’ll typically receive your online proof gallery within 48-72 hours after your session. Once you’ve made your final selections, fully edited images are delivered within 7-10 business days (Mon-Fri).
